COOPERATIVE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITS
The Association of University Presses (AUPresses) offers exhibiting opportunities, often in partnership with international book trade fairs.
FILUNI
AUPresses hosted a collective exhibit space for members at the 2023 Feria International del Libro Universitario (FILUNI), which took place on August 29-September 3 in Mexico City.
Thirteen presses—University of Arizona Press; Bristol University Press; Bucknell University Press; The Catholic University of America Press; Columbia University Press; Georgetown University Press; University of Hawai‘i Press; IMF Publications (International Monetary Fund); Johns Hopkins University Press; Liverpool University Press; Modern Language Association; The National Academies Press; and Rutgers University Press—participated in this AUPresses cooperative stand.
AUPresses has offered discounted exhibit space for members at the fair, which is organized by the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) through its press, since the fair’s inaugural edition in 2017. FILUNI planned and set up the space, while AUPresses staff coordinated the outreach, display set up, and billing for the collective.
AUPresses Community Development and Communications Manager Kate Kolendo managed the booth throughout the fair. AUPresses Executive Director Peter Berkery was a presenter during two panel discussion sessions at FILUNI 2023.
The University of Texas at Austin was this year’s guest of honor, and Robert Devens, Director; Christopher Farmer, Journals Manager; and Angelica Lopez-Torres, International Rights Manager, all attended from the University of Texas Press.
FILUNI is the first international university press book fair hosted in Latin America, drawing university press publishers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, USA, Spain, Peru, and Mexico.

London Book Fair
The Association continued its long-time partnership with Reed Exhibitions to offer discounted exhibit space within an AUPresses-branded pavilion at the 2024 London Book Fair, held March 12-14 at Olympia London.
Eight member presses—Aarhus University Press; Duke University Press/Longleaf Services; Georgetown University Press; Johns Hopkins University Press; Liverpool University Press; National Academies Press; University of Texas Press; and University of Washington Press—joined AUPresses in its collective booth.
Reed offered the exhibiting packages, planned the space, and handled reservations and billing for booth participants. AUPresses Community Development and Communications Manager Kate Kolendo was present for organizational support during the fair.

Charleston Conference
AUPresses hosted a collective space at the 2023 Charleston Conference Vendor Showcase, which took place on November 7 in Charleston, SC.
The five participating presses were Bristol University Press, Columbia University Press, Edinburgh University Press, Liverpool University Press, and National Academies Press.
AUPresses procured the space, produced signage, and coordinated logistics with exhibiting presses. AUPresses 2023-2024 President Jane Bunker and Executive Director Peter Berkery represented the Association at the Vendor Showcase.

UKSG 2024
AUPresses hosted a collective stand at the UKSG Annual Conference 2024, which took place on April 8-10, in Glasgow, UK.
AUPresses Executive Director Peter Berkery and Community Development and Communications Manager Kate Kolendo attended and shared exhibit space with four member presses and their representatives: Ian Morgan and Sarah MacDonald, Edinburgh University Press; Jason Colman, University of Michigan Press; Anja van Hoek and Irene van Rossum, Amsterdam University Press; and Jessica Thompson and Clare Hooper, Liverpool University Press.
AUPresses acquired and managed the space, produced signage, and coordinated logistics with exhibiting presses.

BUSINESS OPERATIONS MEETING
The Association’s Business Operations Meeting planning committee made the decision to postpone its 2023 gathering in Memphis, TN—initially from March 2023 to September 2023 in response to the murder of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the Memphis PD; then again as subsequent incidents in Tennessee made national news headlines. Committee members Gabriela Beres (Michigan), Alice Ennis (Illinois), Scot Kuehm (Princeton), Cason Lynley (Duke),
Wynona McCormick (Texas A&M), and Daniel Wyche Jr. (Hopkins) surveyed members of the Association and determined the 2024 Association’s Business Operations Meeting will be held in concert with the AUPresses 2024 Annual Meeting in Montréal, Quebec, in June to allow for greater community-wide participation and benefit.
COOPERATIVE ADVERTISING PROGRAM
The Association continues its Cooperative Advertising Program; offering discounted advertising rates in 15 publications to AUPresses members. In April, May, October, and November 2023, member presses participated in cooperative advertisements that appeared in the Nation. In addition to the Nation fall and spring discount offers, AUPresses members participated in cooperative advertisements in the American Scholar, Harper’s Magazine, and SST Media Group. Other publications offering discounted advertising via the cooperative program are: Bay Nature, BOMB, Bookshop, Issues in Science and Technology, New Left Review, The New York Times Book Review, Parabola, The Progressive, Science News Magazine, and Tricycle.
